Oil-Immersed Magnetically Controlled Reactor

The Oil-Immersed Magnetically Controlled Reactor (MCR) is manufactured by Jiangshan Yulan Transformer Co., Ltd., a transformer and reactor manufacturer established in 1999 with production capability up to 110kV class. It regulates reactive power continuously by controlling DC excitation current, which changes core saturation and equivalent reactance. The oil-immersed design uses transformer oil for insulation and cooling, making it suitable for high-voltage, large-capacity dynamic reactive power compensation and voltage stabilization.

Oil-Immersed Magnetically Controlled Reactor is a magnetic saturation type dynamic reactive power compensation device. It adjusts DC excitation current to change core saturation, continuously and steplessly adjusting equivalent reactance and reactive power absorption. It absorbs excess reactive power, suppresses voltage rise, and helps maintain system voltage stability.

The oil-immersed structure provides strong heat dissipation, large single-unit capacity, and low operating noise. It is used in high-voltage and large-capacity power projects.

Working Principle

The main body of oil-immersed magnetic controlled reactor is an iron core with an AC working winding and a DC excitation winding. The control system outputs adjustable DC excitation, changes the core operating point, and controls core permeability.

As excitation current changes, core saturation changes, and the winding equivalent inductance changes continuously. Reactive power absorption capacity is therefore adjusted smoothly from near zero to rated value. This balances grid reactive power and suppresses voltage fluctuation.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between oil-immersed MCR and dry-type MCR?

A: Oil-immersed MCR uses transformer oil for insulation and cooling. It is suitable for high-voltage and large-capacity applications and generally has lower noise. It requires an accident oil pit, fire protection, and periodic oil testing. Dry-type MCR uses epoxy casting, has no oil, and is preferred for indoor, fire-proof, and explosion-proof locations. Its single-unit capacity and voltage level may be lower.

Q: Can the MCR operate in parallel with SVG?

A: Yes. It can run independently or in parallel with SVG to form a hybrid reactive power compensation system. The MCR handles steady-state reactive power, while the SVG can handle fast fluctuations and harmonic issues.

Q: What site facilities are required?

A: An accident oil pit, fire protection, oil containment, and maintenance access are required. Outdoor installation should include weather protection. The site should avoid corrosive gas and conductive dust.

Q: What maintenance is required?

A: Regular insulating oil tests, oil level and oil temperature checks, inspection of bushings, gas relay, pressure relief valve, and control system. Maintenance intervals depend on operating conditions and project requirements.

Q: What information is needed for a quotation?

A: System voltage, frequency, required reactive power range, control mode, indoor or outdoor installation, communication protocol, altitude, pollution level, noise limit, and whether SVG or capacitor banks are included.

Q: What protection functions are included?

A: Gas relay, pressure relief, oil level, oil temperature, overcurrent, overvoltage, and other protections according to project requirements.

Q: Is 50 Hz and 60 Hz available?

A: Yes. Both 50 Hz and 60 Hz designs are available.

Q: What is the typical lead time?

A: Lead time depends on capacity, configuration, and project schedule. Please contact us with your project details.
